Construction Lean Technician I & II - Solar

Mortenson is currently seeking a Lean Technician I or II to join our Solar Team that will assist crew leads and forepersons with applying Mortenson’s kaizen-based continuous improvement approach to enhance work safety, streamline processes, and improve project outcomes.   

 

Location: Preference given to those located in the Southwest region (Arizona, California); also open to the following states/regions: Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Florida and the Carolinas. 

 

Travel: This is a 100% travel position; requiring temporary relocation to a project site and working on a rotation schedule. Locations may vary based on the project. When your project is complete you will be assigned to another project. Mortenson hires for a career. 

 

This position offers opportunities at both levels I and II, allowing candidates to apply based on their experience and qualifications. Compensation for this role is determined based on factors such as experience and location. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Partner closely with project leadership to support continuous improvement efforts onsite 
  • Coordinate with project team to plan and execute kaizen events 
  • Participate in kaizen workshops with the project teams 
  • Help the project teams embrace lean tools such as: GEMBA walks, Daily Management System (DMS), Idea capture system, etc. 
  • Reinforce continuous improvement principles and tools post-kaizen events 
  • Support forepersons in observing work, assessing adherence to standardized work, and addressing abnormalities 
  • Collaborate with forepersons to encourage crews to brainstorm and implement ongoing improvements 
  • Assist project team, field leaders, and trade partners in applying 5S practices 
  • Assist superintendents and forepersons in applying daily planning, work management, and learning approaches 
  • Build relationships with diverse backgrounds and organizational levels 
  • Perform all other duties as assigned 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED 
  • Experience as a Lean Technician I or construction field leader (Crew Lead, Foreperson, General Foreperson) 
  • Experience applying lean methods (e.g., kaizen events)  
  • Basic understanding of continuous improvement principles in various work processes and environments 
  • Excellent reliability and follow-through on commitments 
  • Ability to influence through relationship building 
  • Proactive self-starter with a growth mindset 
  • Strong sense of curiosity and optimism 
  • Effectively work with diverse backgrounds and organizational levels 
  • Active listening skills and effective communication, open to diverse input and feedback 
  • Ability to work full-time on site in remote locations 

 

Lean Technician I 

  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • High school diploma or GED 
  • Construction experience 
  • Experience applying lean methods
  • The base pay range for this role is $27.55 to $37.21 hourly

 

Lean Technician II

  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED 
  • Experience as a Lean Technician I or construction field leader (Crew Lead, Foreperson, General Foreperson) 
  • The base pay range for this role is $30.77 to $41.54 hourly

 

(Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%).

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity.  This position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
