SUMMARY 

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the Vermilion team! We’re seeking an Associate with strong expertise and practical transactional and/or operational experience in areas including sourcing, target assessment, valuation, due diligence, deal execution, and portfolio company monitoring and management.  This is a unique and exciting opportunity for a high performing, driven individual who embraces a long-term perspective on value creation, beneficial impact investing, building and sustaining a generational portfolio and aligns with Vermilion’s values.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

Prospect Development

  • Conduct research and analysis, including but not limited to industry/market dynamics, competitive profiles, outreach calls, target profiling, primary research etc., to support deal opportunities in-line with Vermilion’s investment strategy
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of relationships with deal sources including investment advisors, investment bankers, other family-run enterprises, attorneys and other key stakeholders to ensure a robust pipeline of investment opportunities
  • Support and build “thesis driven” buyside and deal generation campaigns and identify proprietary investment opportunities 

Deal Execution

  • Participate in investment evaluation activity including financial modeling and scenario analyses
  • Collaborate with the Vermilion team to outline transaction structures and create in depth business cases for potential investments
  • Support due diligence processes and evaluate all critical components of potential investments, bringing in outside experts as needed
  • Draft short-form and long-form investment memoranda

Investment Oversight

  • Support operating company post-close activities to ensure value creation drivers are maintained and managed
  • Work with SVP, Managing Director/CFO to monitor financial and impact performance and evaluate returns on investments
  • Develop and conduct quarterly internal portfolio valuation and assist with portfolio reporting for presentation to SVP, Managing Director, Chairman, CFO and Board of Advisors.
  • Assist portfolio companies with strategy deployment and financial analyses as needed to achieve growth objectives
  • Provide corporate development support to assigned portfolio companies including add-on acquisitions, partnerships, etc. 

Firm Support 

  • Assist with Vermilion’s internship program including identifying and recruiting top-tier undergrad candidates, maintaining relationships with undergraduate business programs and recruitment offices, and providing mentorship and training to interns

  • Assist with various firm-wide initiatives including internal relationship development across Mortenson, development of ‘best-practice’ tools (ex. Deal evaluation templates), AI-related initiatives, and various other activities that support firm-wide goals

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

 

  • 2+ years working in investment banking, private equity, family office, corporate development group, management consulting or related field
  • Demonstrated experience developing/evaluating financial models, analyzing financial statements, understanding various valuation methodologies and working in a transaction-oriented environment
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Excel and financial modeling 
  • Strong command of accounting and finance
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of and passion for using investing as a means by which to engender beneficial impact
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field with excellent academic record, preferably with an emphasis in finance, accounting or economics
  • Interest and comfort working in a small, fast paced organization with an emphasis on teamwork, humility, stewardship and a commitment to doing the better thing

 

The base pay range for this role is $107,300 - $134,150

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity.
