Mortenson Advances Women in Construction Through WIC Week 2026

Industry events, project‑site activations, and leadership storytelling reinforced a shared commitment to advancing opportunity across Mortenson.

During Women in Construction Week (WIC), Mortenson moved beyond recognition to action—bringing teams, partners, and industry peers together to advance leadership, visibility, and opportunity for teams across the construction industry. Through industry events, project‑site engagement, and leadership storytelling, the week underscored how intentional investment in people strengthens teams, project outcomes, and the future workforce.

This year’s WIC theme, “Level Up,” focused on elevating how teams lead, support, and grow together. Across the organization, Mortenson highlighted the ways women strengthen project delivery, collaboration, and culture through leadership at every level.

Industry Events that Advance the Conversation

The week kicked off with industry events designed to advance conversation and connection. In Minneapolis, employees and industry partners gathered to celebrate progress and reinforce the shared responsibility of shaping a more inclusive construction industry. The event featured a keynote from Emily Pilloton‑Lam, founder of Girls Garage, who explored how inclusive perspectives can reframe leadership, design, and long-term investment in people.

In Denver, Mortenson convened clients, partners, and allies at Mile High at Empower Field for the 2026 WIC Industry Event. The program featured perspectives from industry and community leaders, including keynote speaker Kelly Brough, CEO of the Fitzsimons Innovation Community. With strong participation across the Denver market and support benefiting The Women’s Foundation of Colorado, the event highlighted the collective role the AEC community plays in expanding opportunity for women.

In Minneapolis, the team hosted its third annual Twin Cities WIC Industry Event at Mortenson headquarters, welcoming industry partners to celebrate women in construction and build meaningful connections beyond the organization. The event reinforced the value of collaboration and inclusion in shaping a stronger future workforce. For the third consecutive year, Minneapolis also partnered with Dunwoody College of Technology’s Signature Scholarship Program, Pathway to Careers, supporting under‑resourced women and gender‑expansive individuals and expanding access to careers in construction.

Together, these efforts reflect a shared commitment across operating groups to lead with purpose, invest in partnerships, and take tangible action to build a more resilient and inclusive construction industry.

Turning Commitment into Action on Project Sites

Across operating groups—including Data Centers, Wind, Solar, Sports, and other markets—project teams marked WIC Week through site‑based conversations, toolbox talks, and moments of recognition. These actions reinforced that mentorship, allyship, and leadership development are built daily through consistent engagement.

Elevating Leadership Across Roles

Throughout the week, Mortenson teams also elevated individual stories of leadership. Women in craft and operations roles were recognized for collaboration, technical excellence, and the ways they strengthen teams around them. These stories highlighted that leadership takes many forms and that meaningful impact is often defined by how people support one another on projects and across teams.

Looking Ahead

WIC Week is both a celebration and a call to action. The leadership, visibility, and collaboration demonstrated throughout the week reflect Mortenson’s ongoing commitment to supporting career growth, strengthening teams, and contributing to the future of the construction industry.

Mortenson is proud of the leaders and the teams who continue to invest in people and in building environments where everyone can contribute, belong, and thrive.

The varied perspectives women bring to Mortenson strengthen our teams and enrich our culture, reflecting our commitment to building a place where everyone truly belongs.
