Long-time Partner, Long-Time Impact

Mortenson and the American Heart Association

Across the country, Mortenson’s longstanding partnership with the American Heart Association (AHA) spans a breadth of volunteering and giving events to support the AHA’s mission to fight heart disease and stroke. In addition to our participation in Heart and Stroke Walks and fundraisers, Mortenson jobsites have hosted AHA Health education and challenges to decrease the risk of heart disease and encourage healthy habits.

Mortenson has participated in the Twin Cities Heart Walk for over a decade. In Minneapolis, personal experiences have driven our engagement.  One of these experiences includes the child of a team member who was diagnosed with a severe heart condition shortly after birth; our team member found community through the American Heart Association and has championed Mortenson’s participation in the Twin Cities Heart Walk since 2018. In 2024, over 200 people walked with Team Mortenson at Target Field in Minneapolis!

In Seattle, our team members have taken their commitment to combating heart disease beyond fundraising by sponsoring the ‘Hard Hats with Hearts’ challenge across numerous project sites. In 2024, their participation in two challenges, the Eat Smart Challenge and Blood Pressure Challenge, educated participants and provided tools to support them in making positive lifestyle changes, including healthy eating, getting active, and quitting smoking. After the challenges, 91% of program participants in the Eat Smart Challenge and 81% of participants in the Blood Pressure Challenge reported making a lifestyle modification!

The team also held a waffle bake fundraiser to support the Puget Sound Heart and Stroke Walk. They surpassed their fundraising goal and raised over $5,000 for the AHA!

Team members in Phoenix, Omaha, and Portland also participated in Heart Walks in 2024; increasing our fundraising to more than $65,000. This brings Mortenson’s total fundraising to over $400,000 for the American Heart Association!
