How do you transform a former airport into a beautiful new community?

Mortenson has been providing preconstruction and construction management services to transform the former Stapleton International Airport into the Central Park new-urban, mixed-use redevelopment for the past 20 years. To date, over 119 separate contracts totaling more than $632 million in construction have been performed, revitalizing thousands of acres into Denver’s largest urban infill project, which has been recognized as a world-class example of new urbanism. 

The 4,700-acre site is being transformed into a unique urban development consisting of single-family and multi-family residential, commercial, retail, institutional, and open space. Projects including 12 regional parks totaling 1,100 acres, 38 neighborhood pocket parks, seven community swimming pool facilities, three regional detention ponds, 25 miles of arterial parkways, 40 miles of trails and bike paths, recreation facilities, Quebec I-270 Interchange, and numerous other infrastructure projects to create the most successful public urban infill project in the country. The complex network of utilities includes nearly 46 miles of water line, over 14 miles of storm sewer and over 60 miles of sanitary pipeline.
