The San Carlos Apache Healthcare Corporation's (SCAHC) IT/Supply Chain support facility, completed in June 2024, signifies a significant milestone in the organization's expansion. This 46,000-square-foot building dramatically increases storage space for current and future SCAHC service lines and houses the Information Technology (IT) and Supply Chain (Warehouse) staff.
“Since 2015, SCAHC has been experiencing continuous growth… To be able to store and distribute from a centralized nearby location is beneficial for the hospital as it allows more supplies to be available when needed…,” said Julia James, SCAHC Board of Directors Vice Chairwoman.
Both IT and Supply Chain serve vital roles in the healthcare industry. A glimpse of IT’s role in healthcare includes the usage of technology to store, assess, and distribute patient-related data and ultimately enhance the overall health of population by improving the quality-of-care patients receive. Supply Chain works to reduce costs, increase supply chain efficiency, and build greater agility and resilience into the healthcare value chain. This new build positions SCAHC to effectively plan and serve the growing facility of SCAHC and future expansions.
To bridge our communities SCAHC decided that 10% of the workforce had to be from the tribe. The office closely partnered with the San Carlos Tribal Employment Rights Office (TERO) to ensure that Apaches had an opportunity to partner and participate in building the facility with us. A job fair was held and the local radio station, 91.1 KYAY, invited Christopher Macias on air to spotlight the fair and trade positions available. Over 75 tribe members attended the fair, which kicked off with a welcome message from TERO chairman, Hutch Noline. TERO partnered with four of our trade partners hiring for positions ranging from concrete, mechanical, HVAC, electrical, and steel work.
The extraordinary collaboration between Mortenson, SCAHC, and SCAT is a prime example of how Mortenson embraces the community and builds for the greater good.
