What does it take to grow one of the world’s leading computer science programs?

This expansion to the Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering at the University of Washington (CSE II) includes the construction of a new 136,000 SF facility to create much-needed space for their rapidly growing needs. CSE II will enable UW Computer Science & Engineering to dramatically expand its impact on Washington’s students, innovative employers, and economy while developing solutions to society’s greatest challenges. CSE II will provide the space to double the annual degree production, educating more of Washington’s students for Washington’s high-impact jobs. It will provide new instructional and collaborative spaces, expanded research labs, a 250-seat auditorium, and a flexible event space that will complement the existing Paul G. Allen Center for Computer Science & Engineering on the University of Washington’s Seattle campus.

The University of Washington is targeting a LEED Silver Certification with a goal to get Gold. Among the efforts to reach LEED Silver, the team worked together early in design to set a target scorecard, then monitored/tracked both design and construction documentation through the progression of the project. Project fencing portrays the sustainable features of the project, and the team has used the signage to show things like Waste Diversion Rates on a weekly basis to demonstrate not only the finished building sustainable features but the sustainable practices during the construction process too.
