Mortenson is the full Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractor for 1,200+ megawatts combined of solar and wind energy generation along with more than 2,000 megawatt-hours of battery energy storage being built in conjunction with a large-scale data center project in the southwestern United States.
By seamlessly combining industrial facility construction with massive renewable generation, we are solving the modern world’s greatest challenge: meeting growing energy demand while advancing clean energy at scale. Innovation in Action
This project is unique in the industry both due to its overall size and the integration of multiple clean energy sources alongside data center construction. That requires detailed planning and consistent communication among the Mortenson team to ensure work is completed efficiently and safely.
The clean energy facility will feature 1.3 million First Solar Series 7 solar panels and Nextpower Hail Pro-75 trackers, along with 112 Vestas 4.5 MW V163 wind turbines, which will consistently maximize power output. An energy storage system will store the power when it is generated and discharge it when it is needed.

At its peak, the project will employ upwards of 4,000 skilled craft workers and 300 non-craft team members from 10 different Mortenson operating groups. The project brings together Mortenson’s expertise in different areas such as wind and solar energy generation, energy storage, power delivery, civil, commercial construction, engineering services, supply chain, and manufacturing.
This cross-functional team will be rooted in the principles of Mortenson’s culture — Do the Right Thing, We Before Me and Inspire What’s Possible — to effectively work together and deliver a successful project outcome.
A detailed schedule will keep the project and all craft team members on track, with scope start and end dates lined up strategically throughout the construction process.
