45-mile 161kV Transmission Line Rebuild

General Contractor
Mortenson was chosen by Liberty to design, procure, construct, erect, execute, install, commission, demolish, restore, and complete all work and services required for the rebuild of the 91-0 Line Corridor from Neosho, Missouri Sub 184 to Noel, Missouri Sub 435 and Noel, Missouri Sub 435 to Flint Creek, Arkansas Sub 392. This project was part of increasing grid strength in the area of increased wind power assets.
This project was built under a very tight schedule, with half of the 45-mile 161kV single-circuit transmission line being in Missouri and the other in Arkansas.
Mortenson’s scope included replacing 250 wood H-frame structures with steel structures. Most of the structures were free-standing, and the angles were guyed structures. Conductors were re-used, but OPGW was replaced. There was a significant amount of rock drilling that took place to install the structures.
The team finished the project ahead of scheduled and with zero recordable injuries.
To minimize disturbance to affected landowners and allow for thorough and clear communication before and during the project, Mortenson developed and executed a detailed communication plan which consisted of mailed letters, direct phone calls, and informative flyers distributed in the communities.
Mortenson’s approach on any project includes actionable work within the local community. On the Liberty 91-0 Rebuild project, Mortenson partnered with Liberty Utilities to provide gift cards to their Elf Program which uplifts elderly neighbors within their district and aids them during the holiday season. Additionally, Mortenson supported a local organization called Children’s Haven that gives temporary shelter and nurturing care to children from birth to age 17 in a safe, secure environment while their parents are assisted to resolve family crises. Mortenson gave funds directly to the cause along with holiday gifts for the children in the program.
