Doing the right thing is always the answer.
Building with purpose and people
Getting to be part of building something cool was what initially drew me to construction — the idea that I could point to a stadium or an arena and say "I helped create that" was incredibly compelling. What keeps me passionate after all these years goes far deeper than the structures themselves. It's about mentoring the future generations of builders and seeing the culture at Mortenson grow and evolve. There's something profoundly rewarding about watching people develop, grow into their roles, and become the leaders who will shape our industry's future. Every project we undertake serves a greater mission — whether it's a sports venue that brings communities together or infrastructure that strengthens our cities. Building with people is what transforms those projects from construction achievements into legacy work.
Leadership through presence and innovation
I'm a strong believer in redefining what's possible and thinking outside the box — it's a mindset that has driven some of our most significant breakthroughs at Mortenson. True innovation doesn't happen in isolation — it emerges when we create an inclusive environment that is safe and welcoming for all parties to contribute ideas and challenge the status quo. On every project, I strive to be present for the team and to show up when it matters most. That's when innovation thrives and we truly redefine what's possible together.
Solving challenges with integrity
There is no specific formula to follow when facing difficult problems or challenges, but at Mortenson doing the right thing is always the answer. It is about approaching every situation with integrity, transparency, and making decisions that you can stand behind. Sometimes doing the right thing isn't the easiest choice, but it's always the most important. Doing the right thing is a personal value as well as an organizational value. It makes it very easy to see it in action every day, from how we treat each other and approach challenges to how we serve our customers. When your company’s values align with your own, work becomes more than just a job — it becomes a calling.
PERSONAL PASSIONS
Be a believer in people. Assume good intent. We have the best people who are making the best decisions they can in the moment. Seek to understand instead of judge. This mindset creates an environment where everyone can thrive and do their best work.
MORTENSON MOMENT
My first project was a $200M data center in Phoenix — a team of all-stars that now help lead Mortenson. This early exposure taught me lessons about the industry that still shape my approach today.
