The Las Vegas Athletics Ballpark represents a groundbreaking achievement in sports venue design and construction. Located on the iconic Las Vegas Strip, this state-of-the-art facility will set a new MLB standard while capturing the vibrant energy that defines the Entertainment Capital of the World.
The ballpark is shaped by its unique location and Nevada's challenging desert climate. The innovative design features five overlapping roof shells resembling baseball pennants that will reduce direct sunlight while welcoming natural light through northern-oriented clerestory windows. The ballpark's distinctive exterior showcases a "dragon scale" metal-clad rainscreen that shimmers in natural daylight and reflects the surrounding Las Vegas lights at night.
Intentionally designed with fan experience in mind, the ballpark works to reduce friction and enhance fan enjoyment. With a capacity of 33,000, the venue features the closest seats to home plate and the smallest foul territory of any MLB ballpark. Eighty percent of seats are strategically located between the foul poles, ensuring optimal sightlines for every fan. High-efficiency LED field lighting and advanced digital display boards further ensure superior illumination and visibility.
The structural design of the ballpark pushes the boundaries of modern construction. At its heart, a sweeping cable-net curtain wall frames stunning views of The Strip and ETFE clerestories deliver an indoor ballpark experience with incredible natural light entering from above. The nearly 700-foot free standing steel trusses are engineered for longevity, ensuring the venue will support and serve the community for generations.
Advanced technology integration is at the forefront of the project, focusing on industry-leading practices that will make this the safest project possible. The Mortenson | McCarthy team is leveraging Synchro 4D for clear schedule communication, Revizto+ for team-wide coordination and drone imagery for logistics, ensuring safety, quality and precision throughout the project. Drone utilization along with 360-degree photos provide the onsite crews with accurate, up-to-date information and ensures the final product will look just like the project renderings.
Environmental sustainability is another key consideration throughout the project. The building's positioning specifically takes advantage of natural lighting patterns, minimizing direct sunlight while maximizing indirect light — positively impacting both energy efficiency and the fan experience. In addition to coming from above, an efficient air-conditioning system distributes cooling directly at seats, making the system more energy-conscious while enhancing comfort in Nevada's desert climate.
The project also maintains a strong commitment to small and local business participation. The construction approach prioritizes local workforce development, with more than half of the project workforce expected to come from the Las Vegas area. Community engagement efforts extend beyond construction, with plans for youth programs, ticket donation initiatives and partnerships with local schools and nonprofits. The goal is creating a venue that serves as more than just a place to watch a game — establishing a point of pride for the entire Las Vegas community.
A Legacy Project for Las Vegas
The ballpark will function as a true multipurpose venue capable of hosting concerts, conferences and other events year-round, ensuring 365-day programming beyond baseball. The adaptability creates a landmark destination for Southern Nevada's entertainment landscape — a transformative addition to the city's skyline and entertainment ecosystem. With its bold design capturing Las Vegas's energy, world-class amenities and commitment to community, this project will serve future generations while establishing a new benchmark for ballpark excellence.
The groundbreaking ceremony on June 23rd, 2025, marked the beginning of a historic journey that will culminate in Opening Day 2028 — when Las Vegas officially joins the ranks of Major League Baseball cities with a venue worthy of the Entertainment Capital of the World.
