Article Summary
- Mortenson team members contributed more than 380 volunteer hours supporting athletes and families at the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games through venue preparation, athlete support, Healthy Athletes screenings, and event operations.
- Our support and sponsorship of the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games reflects a long-standing commitment to building stronger, more inclusive communities. That commitment came to life through hands-on service and shared moments that celebrated athletes of all abilities.
When the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games came to Minneapolis, it was more than a national event in our backyard, it was an opportunity to welcome athletes, families, coaches, volunteers, and fans from across the country to our community to celebrate the power of inclusion through sports.
As a proud sponsor, Mortenson joined the broader community in supporting an event that welcomed 52 Special Olympic delegations including 2,800 athletes, 1,500 coaches, and 13,000 volunteers. The event created an unforgettable experience rooted in competition, connection, and belonging for athletes, volunteers, and families.
Mortenson team members were involved before competition officially began, helping prepare spaces and resources that supported athlete experiences. In April, our team gathered to assemble golf bags. As the start of the USA Games got closer, team members built pickleball courts at the National Sports Center, so they were ready for athletes, setting the stage for a successful competition.
As the USA Games continued, volunteers greeted athletes as they arrived in competition venues, served meals, guided athletes through Healthy Athletes Screenings, and supported event operations. By the closing ceremonies, Mortenson volunteers had contributed more than 380 hours in support of athletes.
The impact of the USA Games extended well beyond the competition. Through Healthy Athletes Screenings, athletes received access to important medical services and resources, including nearly 10,000 free health screenings and the free distribution of 874 pairs of eyeglasses, 58 hearing aids, and 4,500 pairs of shoes.
For many volunteers, supporting the USA Games created meaningful connections and lasting memories. As Jhoanna Sadural, a member of Mortenson’s Power team, shared, “Volunteering for the USA Games was a meaningful experience that allowed me to give back to a community that celebrates inclusivity. Mortenson’s engagement is one example of our cultural pillar of inspiring what’s possible, something each and every athlete demonstrated."
For Mortenson, supporting the USA Games reflected a long-standing commitment to building stronger, more inclusive communities.
