Eagle Mountain Data Center

Built on a culture of innovation and community.

When Mortenson’s Data Center Solutions' team first broke ground in Eagle Mountain, Utah, we knew we were building more than a data center. We were creating a digital backbone for applications and services that would reach more than two billion people worldwide. What we couldn't have forecasted is the impact that this build, and the innovation that it spawned, could create across the data center industry and Mortenson projects alike.

The scope of this LEED GOLD project is large: 28 data halls across multiple phases, totaling nearly 300MW. Separate phases and the scale of this important data center allowed us to push the limits of innovation with each iteration, improving how data centers are delivered.

Mortenson’s innovation team saw an opportunity to make a real difference on this project. They produced the very first pieces of precast ductbank for the Eagle Mountain Data Center and even opened a manufacturing plant in West Jordan, Utah, to support the effort. This facility not only built the ductbank but also produced premanufactured walls and hot aisle containments. What started as a bold idea at Eagle Mountain became the beginning of a new era for Mortenson—these innovative premanufactured products are now built by BLUVera, a Mortenson affiliate, and used in many of our data center projects, like the DeKalb Data Center.

We are grateful to our customer for encouraging the team to think beyond what is possible and fostering an innovative culture that inspired the implementation of Flow scheduling. This approach helped self-perform teams and trade partners work more efficiently, especially when challenges started to stack up. After seeing the success of Flow scheduling at the Eagle Mountain Data Center, our team adopted this process on many of our subsequent projects.

Innovation did not just streamline our work on the job—it also inspired our team to give back to the community in meaningful ways. We continue to host blood drives for the Red Cross, clean horse stables that house therapy horses, and organize food and school supply drives. Our team even raised close to $40k for the Primary Children’s Hospital in Utah and $270K for the American Military Family organization, which supports our veterans, first responders and their families throughout the Unites States. Whenever there is an opportunity to get involved, our team steps up. Many of the team on this project are Utah residents who take pride in making a positive impact in Eagle Mountain and the surrounding areas.

This project began in 2018, and we are on track for current campus completion at the end of 2025. As Bill Gregor, our Data Center Solutions Vice President and Campus Director, put it: “I’m proud to be part of a team that’s delivering innovative solutions and ideas on a data center project that will benefit many people around the world, including those right here in Utah.”

The Eagle Mountain Data Center is a project built on a culture of innovation and a deep connection to the community.
