The Oklahoma City New Arena represents a transformative investment in the future of downtown Oklahoma City. This first-class, state-of-the-art NBA arena and multi-purpose entertainment venue will secure the long-term presence of major league professional sports in Oklahoma City while serving as a powerful catalyst for economic and cultural growth throughout the surrounding community.

Mortenson is working in partnership with Flintco to build the arena. Designed to celebrate the universal human connection fostered through sports and live entertainment, the venue creates a shared experience to unite the community. The venue features a 360-degree glass curtain wall, offering breathtaking panoramic views from all interior concourses and allowing approaching spectators can see the wood-like paneling that makes up the interior. Dubbed “The Vessel”, this innovative design emphasizes transparency and connection, creating visual links between the arena, its visitors, and the downtown cityscape. The specialized glass system incorporates laminated and insulated triple-pane construction with low-E films to manage heat and UV radiation, while bird-safe patterning ensures environmental responsibility.

The west-facing main entrance aligns with the adjacent Myriad Botanical Gardens and captures the beauty of Oklahoma sunsets. At street level, Thunder Alley creates a fan activation zone designed within the arena footprint, energizing the streetscape and welcoming visitors with dynamic pre-game and event experiences. On the inside the interior concept places basketball at its heart, with optimized sightlines and seating configurations designed to foster an energetic, loud, and intimate atmosphere. Every decision supports an exceptional fan experience that amplifies the excitement of live sports and entertainment within the venue.

Oklahoma City and the Oklahoma City Thunder ownership group successfully aligned a public-private partnership for arena funding, highlighting the team's community role and economic benefits. For a project estimated at $990 million, more than 90 percent of the funding will come from public sources — and the supporting tax measure passed with a resounding 71 percent approval, marking one of the most decisive votes in city history.

The achievement of securing this world-class facility demonstrates the power of community vision and collaboration between the team and the city. The Thunder ownership group's 25-year commitment to remain in Oklahoma City, beginning when the new arena opens, provides long-term stability and growth potential that will benefit the surrounding population.

The Oklahoma City New Arena represents more than a building — it's a bold statement about Oklahoma City's trajectory, a gathering place for shared experiences, and a downtown landmark that will define the city's skyline and spirit for decades to come. It will continue to elevate the city’s profile as a premier destination for major concert tours, sporting events, family shows and more.

The new arena is targeting a completion date in the late summer of 2028.
